Welcome to our Earth Day store, celebrating Earth Day every day.

Earth Day 2009 Tuesday, April 22, 2009 marks the 39th annual observance of Earth Day.

Earth Day was founded by Senator Gaylord Nelson. At a conference in Seattle in September 1969, Senator Gaylord announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide grassroots demonstration on behalf of the environment. In the largest demonstration of its kind in history, millions expressed their dismay over what was happening to the environment around them and their alarm over the indifference to it by the political leaders of the country. Thus, in April of 1970 Earth Day was born.

On September 29, 1995 Gaylord Nelson was awarded the Medal of Freedom for his work on behalf of our environment and his organization of the first Earth Day.

"The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest honor given to civilians in the United States…Twenty-five years ago this year, Americans came together for the very first Earth Day…They came together…because of one American - Gaylord Nelson. As the father of Earth Day…He inspired us to remember that the stewardship of our natural resources is the stewardship of the American Dream. He is the worthy heir of the tradition of Theodore Roosevelt…And I hope that Gaylord Nelson's shining example will illuminate all the debates in this city for years to come."
President Bill Clinton, 9/29/95
